Rustic Apple Galette – Simple Elegance in Every Bite
A Rustic Apple Galette is a dessert that strikes the perfect balance between effortless and impressive. The crust is wonderfully flaky, offering a buttery crunch that perfectly complements the soft, spiced apple filling. The apples, tender yet slightly firm, are infused with the warm flavors of cinnamon and a hint of tartness from the lemon juice. Each bite delivers a harmonious blend of textures and flavors that feels both indulgent and comforting, making it an unforgettable treat. The sourdough crust adds a subtle tanginess and depth of flavor that pairs beautifully with the sweet, spiced apples. Its sturdy yet tender texture ensures it holds up to the juicy filling while remaining delightfully crisp and flaky. One of the things I love about a galette is that it doesn’t have to be perfect and you have the ability to shape it how you want!

Ingredients:
Crust:
- Use the sourdough pie crust recipe from The Perfect Loaf.
Filling:
- 5 medium-sized Honeycrisp apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
- 1 ½ cups Sugar
- 1 tbsp Cinnamon
- Juice of 1 Lemon
- ½ tsp Salt
Assembly:
- 1 Egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions:
- Prepare the sourdough pie crust and chill.
- Combine the apple slices with sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and salt. Stir well.
- Roll out the dough into a rough circle, about ⅛ inch thick. Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Place the apple filling in the center, leaving a 2-inch border. Fold the edges over the filling, pleating as needed.
- Brush the crust with the beaten egg. Bake at 400°F for 35 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the filling is bubbling.
- Let cool slightly before serving. Pair with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
